Hi there, today I am going to talk about installing and configuring the Oracle Policy Automation OPA suite in your system. Before you begin with this Oracle Policy Automation setup guide I hope you have read my introduction post and have at least vague idea about what is going on. OPA is undoubtedly the best policy automation software and the good news is it’s free of cost. Oracle offers free downloads for the users who are interested to learn this tool. You can either download as a whole package or you can download only the main tool, Oracle Policy Modelling that is used to make create rule base. I suggest you to download the whole package as we will be needing it on the advanced levels. The latest release is OPA 12 but, I am going with the earlier version OPA 10.4.5 as it is more stable and the interface is pretty easy to catch up.
Like I said the OPA 10.4.5 package has;
- Oracle Policy Modeling tool.
- Oracle Policy Automation runtime connectors for Java
- Oracle Policy Automation runtime connectors for .NET
- Oracle Policy Automation for Mobile devices
- Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Siebel
- Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Oracle CRM on Demand
You can download all this files by going to the Oracle Downloads page. Download to a new folder and extract each file using zip or winrar.
Next step is we need to install our main tool in the package which is the OPM / Oracle Policy Modeling. It all starts by defining, writing, compiling and executing the rules or source policy. This operation is carried out using OPM.
Here is the link to the article which explains How to Install and Configure Oracle Policy Modeling ; OPM Setup Guide
The other files that you have downloaded are only used for more advanced technical perspective. The OPA runtime connectors for Java will contain basically all the jar files that is required for technical or programming aspect of OPA. The determinations-engine.jar file which is in fact one of the main component for working with OPA in Java which let you access the core components. Personally I am a Java Developer and so I will be talking more about Java rather than the .Net. Oracle offers mobile device support, connectors for Siebel and CRM on Demand. We will be continue to talk about this on next posts. Please subscribe to the free email newsletters so that you will not miss any important updates. Thank you for reading.
